Why spend extra money on premade pasta sauce when you can make your own with a few ingredients you probably already have in your food pantry. This is a great, quick, simple sauce that goes well on pizza, steamed veggies, meats, fish and of course on your favorite pasta. If you want a smoother sauce, blend the tomatoes in a blender before adding them to the pot. You can also add or subtract your favorite veggies like celery, carrots and even diced potatoes for a hearty meal. Ingredients2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil1 heaping tablespoon tomato paste2 minced garlic cloves2 large cans crushed tomatoes (28 oz cans)1 can (14 oz) stew tomatoes1 small can of mushroom piecesDry Seasoning1 tablespoon Italian seasoning½ tablespoon Mrs. Dash or No-Salt seasoning½ tablespoon kosher salt½ tablespoon onion powder1 tablespoon brown sugarDirections Gather all of your ingredients listed below and a large pot with a cover. Open the cans and dump out the liquid from the can of mushrooms. You can also use fresh mushrooms and you can purchase them already sliced to make this quick. Measure out all of your seasonings and place it in a small dish. Heat up your pot and place on med-high, add the extra virgin olive oil. You don’t want your pot too hot or it will bubble the tomato sauce and splatter out of the pot. Add the tomato paste and mix, to bring out the flavors of the paste, then add the garlic. Saute for a minute and add all the cans, mix well, then add all of your dry ingredients. Cover and place pot on low and start making your pasta. Choose your favorite pasta and cook per instructions on box, your sauce is basically ready any time but if you wish to add meat balls or meat, cook the meat separately and then add to the sauce – let the meat sit in the sauce for 10-15 minutes to soak up the marinara flavors. If you’re using this for pizza or any other type of sauce it’s ready just add it to your favorite dish. Garlic bread can simply be made in the toaster oven by lightly buttering both sides of any type of bread and shaking a little garlic powder on one side of the bread.
